Week 10
Evaluation:
Reflecting back to the beginning processes of our choreography, our objective was to create a piece of choreography which exhibited the reality of war as well as expressing the idea that War doesn't resolve in anything other than death. We got this message across by showing the personalities of each individual solider as a way to build a likeable friendship with the audience former to the soldiers dropping to the floor at the end of our choreography to show the death and consequences War has on people lives. We wanted the audience to feel different throughout each section of our choreography as a way to represent the emotional rollercoaster the soldiers had to go through:
Marching section- During this section we didn't want the audience to feel anything as we wanted them to mainly focus on creating the connection between the movements and who we were representing. We made this clear by doing solidarity movements with emotionless expressions.
Coming together/ teamwork section- This section we really wanted to audience to see the normal and fun personalities of each solider as a way to build a likeable friendship. We did this by adding in small gestures of laughter and playfulness.
Countdown- From here the choreography takes a dramatic turn as us soldiers start coming to the realisation of what is about to happen. During this section we wanted the audience to feel uneasy and nervous with us dancers so that they can emotionally follow along with the choreography instead of just watching us tell a story through movement.
War- We wanted this section to be chaotic and dramatic as a way to make the audience feel anxious and uneasy. We did this by adding dramatic runs, fast footwork, canons and fearful movements as a way to get the this message across to the audience.
PTSD- From here our choreography takes another dramatic turn as we start to show the repercussions war had on the soldiers. In this section we wanted the audience to feel helpless as they watch us dance in a confused and distressing way. We did this by repeating certain motifs we used throughout the beginning of our choreography however performing them in unenthusiastic and confused way.
Respect- This section we wanted the audience to reflect back to our choreography and realise the reality War has on normal people. We did this by performing basic gestures so the audience can reflect rather than being distracted by our movement. Within this section we also had soldiers dropping to the floor to illustrate them not making it home to their family. This again expresses our original message of how war is a consequence of death on innocent people.
I personally feel although we managed to clearly get our emotions across to the audience, using the girl in our class crying by the end of our piece as evidence. This gave our group reinsurance that we was able to get our message across clearly to the audience.
Personally for me the most challenging part of creating our choreography was time management due to us having a crowded timetable as well as not being able to meet outside the studios due to the current situations. However we was able to overcome this by utilising weekends and free studio time to focus on developing and enhancing our choreography so that it can be the best it can be.
Overall I really enjoyed this choreographic process as well as working within a team to create our final choreographic piece. I feel although I work better in a team as I was able to bounce from other peoples ideas as well as my own to create new founded ideas for our choreography. Im personally really happy with the outcome of our piece as I think it expresses our message and emotions clearly to the audience as well as it being a pleasure to perform.
I really enjoyed reading this blog and seeing how your choreography has developed from your starting objective. It’s great to see that your message and emotions convey to the audience and that you all enjoy performing your piece aswell. Do you feel that the feedback you have received from your peers over the past few weeks has helped when conveying the message and emotion to the audience?
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment Megan, I definitely feel although our feedback from not only our teacher but also our peers has really helped convey our story and message behind our choreography. An example of this would be our correction from week 7 where we were told to use more facial expressions, I feel although we have all taken this correction onboard allowing us to show the different emotions in which the soldiers have to go through.
DeleteThis is a clear and detailed blog in which i enjoyed reading. I like how you have written about how you want the audience to feel during each section within your piece as well as the different challenges you have faced during this process. How are you feeling about the final assessment? How will you and your group prepare for this ?
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment Bella, Im nervous but also very confident with our choreography as we have tried our very best to prepare for this assessment including using extra hours outside the studio to work on our piece. I think all we can do now is individually go over the choreography finding sections we are not as confident on and working on them until we are confident.
DeleteThis is a very well written blog and shows the thought and process that was taken for the group piece clearly and descriptively. Now we are approaching the assessment, how are you planning to prepare for it?
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment Eloisa, much like I said in Bella's comment, I think all we can do now is individually go over the choreography finding sections we are not as confident on and working on them until we are confident.
