Week 6
Reviewing this weeks choreography lesson, I feel although it was very productive and effective, with us choreographing the first minute of our choreography.
We started the lesson by focusing on the marching section of our choreography. From here, we all sat together and listened to different pieces of music we thought would fit our theme and in which would allow us to easily show our message and intention. After discussing as a group, we all came to the conclusion that we're going to use a metronome in order to keep our march sharp and dynamic. However during this time we found other pieces of music that we thought would work for other sections within our choreography.
From here we looked back at the motif Nathan and Louisa made two weeks ago. We then thought of different and impactful ways we could portray this motif in order to really portray our theme to the audience. As a group we decided we could split in half and enter three from each side. As a whole we thought this would be very powerful and dynamic as we march in unison to show our strength. From here we worked together to add on some choreography while trying to include choreographic devices such as, unison, canon, contrast, repetition and argumentation.
Once we had our choreography we slowly went over counts and patterns to ensure we really mimicked the regiment of soldiers at war. Personally I feel like this made our dance powerful and demanding which allows the audience to keep engaged and interested in throughout our choreography.
Following on from this, we then performed our choreography to our class which allowed us to receive feedback and corrections in order to improve our choreography, our feedback consisted off:
- Make sure our lines are straight and direct
- Make our arms strong and dynamic
- They complimented how we took our motif and developed it further.
- Our timing was good, and we all knew the counts
In order to keep our lines perfect and direct, we will use the mirrors and our spacial awareness to ensure we are one behind the other, while using our shoulders as a way to get the correct placement. In addition, we will move our arms quicker to add dynamics allowing the audience to see each arm position making the overall aesthetic clean and precise.
Overall, I really enjoyed this lesson as we can finally see our choreography coming together and how interesting it is that by us working great as a team, can create so many different ideas and new ways of movement.
Over the half term we are each going to create a small bit of choreography based around our PTSD section to the song 'Bringing Joey Home, and Bonding' By John Williams. Then when we are back we will show each other what we have come up with, making it easier to choreograph when we come back after our break.
Heres a video of the choreography we made during this lesson:
This is a very clear and detailed blog, I like how you have included the feedback you received from your other class mates, as well as how your gonna to apply these corrections. You spoke about how you and your group are going to choreograph over half term, are you considering any of the methods and tasks we have been using over the past few weeks?
ReplyDeleteThank you Megan for your comment, I am actually going to use a different choreographic method as a new way to think of emotive choreography. I am going to use improvisation as I feel it really allows me to connect with the music and it also allows my body to create new and natural ways of movement which will be influenced by my research on Travis Williams.
DeleteI really enjoyed reading this blog and seeing how you have developed your choreography further. From watching your video i can clearly see how you have linked your movement material to your chosen stimulus. I also like how you have included information about how you will overcome the feedback you received during the lesson to make your choreography even better. How do you feel the choreographic devices you added to Nathan and Louisa's phrase effected your piece as a whole?
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment Bella, I feel although adding choreographic devices into Nathan and Louisa's phrase really helped our choreography develop and mature. It also makes our choreography more interesting to the audience as it creates levels and layers within our choreography.
DeleteI believe that we made good progress this week as a group and you have clearly demonstrated in this blog how we did so, clearly you found the feedback constructive and have written about how we will use it to improve what we have created so far. How did you find performing your own choreography for the group?
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment Eloisa, I really enjoyed performing our choreography to the class as it was interesting to see their reactions and hear their opinions. This also allows room of improvement as it allowed us to spot flaws in timing and co-ordination.
