Week 5
Moving into week 5, we looked at gestures we could use throughout our group choreography.
Similarly to last week, in pairs we chose one word in which we wanted to base our gestures on. Ella and Louisa chose 'coming together', myself and Erin chose 'fear' and Erin and Nathan chose 'PTSD'. We then individually spent 10 minutes coming up with a gesture to express our chosen words.
We then came back together and showed our gesture to each other in which we chose 3/6 gestures to develop. The video linked in this blog, shows exactly which gestures we developed and how we developed them. We developed each gesture by making them bigger which I discovered chances the overall dynamic and affect.
Moving on, we then chose Erins gesture to develop even further as a group by adding choreographic devices and formations. We did this by standing in a diagonal line and using cannon as a way to change the dynamics and outcome of the gesture. We then focused on the ending position in which we used different arm lines and levels in a way to create a sense of chaos in which fear might bring.
I like how you have include images and videos in the blog, you have explained the task very clear and in great detail. I also like how you started off with a small gesture and developed this by adding formations and choreographic devices, overall how did you find this task? And do you think this is a task you will consider throughout the piece?
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment Megan, personally this was my least favourite task as I found it hard to transform an emotive word into a simple movement. However I like the idea of developing the movement into something bigger and how it will allow the audience to create connections within our choreography if these gestures are repeated more than once. So yes I will consider using this technique within our choreography.
DeleteThis is a great blog Lucy and I love how you have included pictures and videos of the material you created during this lesson. I also like how you decided to develop a gesture as a group as it really shows that you are all working together to create a group piece as a team. What different dynamics did you use when developing Erin's gesture and how do you think this effected your piece?
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment Bella. When developing Erins gesture we thought of different ways we could make it bigger allowing the overall affect of the gestures to be more affective, so we didn't add dynamic into the gesture. However if we use this gesture in the future I will definitely consider adding in sharper dynamics to not only fit the theme of our piece but to also have a more impactful affect on the audience.
DeleteI found your blog very interesting and your layout and presentation makes your blog very eye-catching. I also like the way you have added what you discovered during this weeks task , as you mentioned that developing each gesture changed your dynamics. This shows you have a good understanding of the task given. Did you find it challenging or easy to create your final idea for your choreography and did the gestures help you to link anything together?
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment Lucy, I thought it was going to be difficult finding a final idea for our choreography as there are so many roots you can take, however this was not the case. Once we had discussed any ideas we had as a group it was clear that War was an idea that everyone was interested in and had the most ideas about.
DeleteFor me personally I feel although the repetition of developed gestures will link the audience to our choreography as these will be phases in the choreography they recognise, allowing them to reflect back at our choreography and hopefully develop a stronger emotional connection.
This blog was very well written and interesting to read. How do you think our group will use these gestures and their developments throughout our piece?
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment Eloisa . I think we will use these gestures as parts in our choreography where the audience can recognise and link our movement together, giving our choreography a polished and well-rounded outcome.
